With the goals to obtaining basic spatial information such land use and landcover and controlling environmental problems coming from the type of landuse, the Ministry Of Environment of Regional Government of Andalusia has initiated a program to obtain landcover cartography. To carry on management policies and to achieve real environment monitoring, new technologies are used in the design of a procedure to produce cartography updated every four years. Moreover, the cartography design is focussed in the definition of a new nomenclature particulary ajusted to the natural conditions of the regional territory and to the tools to obtaining this information (Landsat-TM imagery and aerial photography).
